Tender Loving Care

Hats off to Jon Morgan and the volunteer crew of TLC-1, also known as The Lake Clinic - I prefer to call the boat Tender Loving Care - who have begun their ambitious project to bring medical care to the villages that dot the shores of the Tonle Sap Lake. From its home port in Kompong Khleang, TLC-1 will get out onto the lake every week to bring much-needed healthcare (including dentistry and prenatal care provided by visiting foreign volunteers) and support to families who would otherwise have little or no chance of receiving such vital care and education. One of their regular stops is the 1,000-inhabitant village of Moat Khla ('Tiger's Mouth'), where the whole village relies on fishing for its livelihood and has no running water or electricity - the lake and its waterways serve as both the source of drinking water and as their toilet.
