Perspective

When a young woman takes her own life, as someone we all knew from working with her for the last couple of years did yesterday, it puts into perspective that we never know what will happen tomorrow, and we can never really know what's in the minds of others. I'm not trying to be profound, far from it, I just feel numb that someone we all knew and liked so much for her positive attitude and gregarious nature on the outside, could be so troubled inside and with nowhere to turn as to make such a tragic decision. Today is not a good day. My sincere sympathies are with Kong's family and her friends, many of whom are in our office and simply cannot comprehend what has happened.

Our office is in complete shock. This is something we would never have contemplated for this particular individual.
Sophoin is fine.

Ow.... sorry to hear it Andy. You're right, you never know what's going on with people, esp when things get that difficult. Best wishes to her family as well to get through this tough time.

Andy I have great empathy for you. Five years ago someone close to me (a family member) also decided that life wasn't worth living.

There was no note but I understood that event very well.

A smile in a photo tells nothing about what a person feels inside. Kong certainly looks very happy and vibrant in the photo with you.

The most valuable thing you do in your blog is getting people to think about new things in new ways.

Your terrific articles inspire people to discover new places, films, foods, people, books and events they would have never found.

Even more important is when you highlight causes, social issues and problems that need attention... and you begin asking questions that will lead to solutions.

Does your friend Kong have a lesson for us?

Was this event just "one of those things" that we'll just never understand? Or was something happening that could have been changed to avert this tragedy?

I'm sorry you lost a good friend. And I'm very sorry that Kong couldn't find reasons to stay in this world.
