Wrapping up part 1
Phnom Penh Crown's wonderkid, Keo Sokngorn, scored one of their goals in a 4-1 successAfter work I went to watch Rithy Panh's The People of Angkor at Reyum with about fifty teenage Khmer schoolkids who have a completely different way of watching a film than I do. They talk non-stop, laugh loudly, phone their friends and generally mess about whilst I was trying to watch a film I've been waiting to see for a few years. Remind me never to go and watch a Khmer movie at Lux. As for the parts of the film I managed to see and hear, the 'real' lives of the inhabitants of Angkor appeared completely scripted in my view and that took some of the shine off it. There was a lot of humour, which pleased the schoolkids, and it was good to see another appearance from the sweeper of Ta Prohm, Choun Nhiem, who passed away earlier this year. I'm pleased I've seen it but it's not one of Panh's best films by a long chalk.

its a real pity this once respectable blog on Cambodia and Cambodian life has turned now into a plain soccer column, portraying the Herculean efforts of the least competitive of all soccer countries to look "English" in a way... Unfortunately, Cambodia is not and never will be like Brazil, for instance, who assimilated the Briton's game to a degree that provokes perpetual envy and admiration on its creators... Its plain to see that Mr. Brouwer is working with an eye on posterity... He will be history as soon as Cambodia at last manages to classify for some minor league series or regional competition, equivalent in importance to a ping-pong qualifying contest in Tanzania or Zimbabwe ultimaterly leading to a confront with the Chinese... Dear ex-reader Sammy, though you probably won't read this as you are now an ex-reader. However, I cover football for two reasons.
Firstly, my blog is about life in Cambodia, including mine. I watch football each weekend during the CPL season, so I felt it appropriate to write about what I see. I write about the films I see, about the exhibitions I attend, about the people I meet, its all the same thing. As I also cover the national team for the Phnom Penh Post, its important for me to keep up to speed on players and the local football scene.
Secondly, I felt there was a gap in the coverage of CPL football. I even wrote to the PPPost a while ago asking them to improve their non-existent coverage - which they have impressively done ten-fold. Football is a very important sport to Cambodians, I want to help bring that to the attention of my blog readership.... though I do understand that if you prefer to see temples or cultural stuff on my blog, then please just skip over the football reportage.
I will continue to post what happens in my life here in Cambodia and what I think are important articles that I want others to share. That will include the football matches I attend. By the way I've reported on football matches for much of the last 35 years and I don't intend to stop now.

couldn't agree more with you and Darath and hopes you will continue to report on a regular basis on Cambodian soccer, your doing a remarkable job, congratulations! everything is possible in sport and even more so in soccer, rememeber the stunning performance of North Korea in England's 1966 World Cup, who could anticipate that? eventually Cambodia will wind his way into the major leagues and competitions, Mr Sammy-X has been very disrespectful to you, Cambodia and African brothers alike. wow, thanks for the depth of support folks, it strengthens my resolve to carry on as before. If I see it or feel its worth reporting, I will. Football has been in my bloodstream since I can remember, and it ain't gonna stop now.
I have a good relationship with the PPP and the new Cambodian coach so I am keen to give the national team of Cambodia as much coverage as is possible as they do their very best to improve their world ranking and to do well in each competition they enter. There will be tough times ahead as Scott O'Donell wants to fundamentally change the way the team plays, but in the long run it will be good for the players, the team and Cambodia.
