Those chaps from Pocket Guide Cambodia have now published Phnom Penh's first fully-indexed street map called STREETWiSE, 84 pages in A5 format, containing detailed maps of greater Phnom Penh combined with an index of streets (by name and number), landmarks, government offices, embassies, banks, airline offices, schools, markets and so on. There's also an 18-page briefing on the history of the city and its street system, tips for beating the traffic jams, transport options, rules of the road and a look at what the city planners have in store for the future. It's an excellent 1st attempt. I never knew there were so many pagodas in the city. And where did Koh Pich (Diamond Island city) spring up from. I never knew it was there!
All the most appropriate landmarks are shown, as far as I can see, though there's no rooms for retail outlets in general (aside from mini-marts), which doesn't help if I'm looking for a specific shop - but if I know the road number then the booklet will guide me there.
The written sections are useful too.
I'm not sure how often I will look at the directory, but it's a good addition to the 'city map scene' and exceptionally well presented. Though I must take issue with the spellings of Wat Onalom and Wat Botumwatdei - I have never seen those spellings before for two of the city's main pagodas.
Well done those Pocket Guide folks.
